Delaware Tech Gives Kids a Smile
GEORGETOWN - Delaware Technical Community College was proud to host Give Kids a Smile for the tenth time this February at a new location --The Dental Group in Lewes, Delaware. Give Kids a Smile is a program that provides free dental care to children from low-income families.
Give Kids a Smile takes place annually during February’s National Children’s Dental Health Month and marks the tenth year that Delaware Tech has been involved with the program. Give Kids a Smile is sponsored by the Delaware State Dental Society (DSDS) and is the American Dental Association’s primary oral health outreach program.
Sue Schroeder, Delaware Tech’s Terry Campus dental instructor led a team consisting of Delaware Tech’s Dental Health Clinic staff, faculty and seven of our second year students from the Dover extension site of the program, along with area dental professionals. The team worked very closely to not only meet the needs of 80-90 children, but also to educate them on the importance of dental hygiene. Give Kids a Smile dental volunteers provided educational materials, screenings and free dental care, including cleanings, X-rays and fillings.
The following Delaware Tech students participated in the Give Kids a Smile Event:
