Students Participate in Spread the Word Campaign

DELAWARE – Delaware Technical Community College held Spread the Word to End the Word campaigns at all campus locations in March. Spread the Word to End the Word is an ongoing effort by the Special Olympics, Best Buddies and supporters to inspire respect and acceptance through raising the consciousness of society about the R-word and how hurtful words and disrespect can be toward people with disabilities. The campus events were sponsored and hosted by students.

At the Stanton/Wilmington Campus, students, faculty and guests signed banners to pledge their commitment. Buttons, stickers and t-shirts were distributed, and community guests from Mosaic of Delaware and the Special Olympics were on hand.

At the Terry Campus, students, faculty and guests signed a banner, after signing each participant received a memento to show support.

The Owens Campus event was sponsored and hosted by the student club Aevidum. Participants received a bracelet after signing the banner. Students who shared why the event or the Spread the Word to End the Word campaign was important to them received a free t-shirt. Student leaders from Aevidum read the testimonials during the event.
