3rd Annual Learning Communities Summer Institute Held July 28-Aug. 1
COLLEGEWIDE - Seventeen participants representing all four campuses of Delaware Technical Community College took part in the 3rd Annual Learning Communities Summer Institute, July 28 through Aug. 1 at the Terry Campus in Dover.
The event offers training for learning community instructors. Throughout the week, campus learning communities coordinators and faculty highlighted best practices, and a student panel shared their experiences in various learning communities. Stephanie Smith, Delaware Tech vice president for academic affairs, welcomed the attendees.
The keynote speaker for the event was Greg Hinckley, of Seattle Central Community College, and the title of his address was “Don’t Isolate, Integrate: Engaging and Empowering Students.” Following his address, Mr. Hinckley worked one-on-one with faculty and academic counselors to begin the process of creating integrated assignments in their learning communities.
The learning community linked course format is a student success initiative. The Learning Communities Summer Institute is made possible because of funding from the TAACCCT Grant and support from the College community.
