Delaware Tech Hosting Student Veterans Conference on October 28

DOVER – Delaware Tech is hosting a Student Veterans Conference on October 28, 2016 on its Terry Campus in Dover. The conference is designed to connect student veterans from the region with information and resources to help them thrive in the academic environment.
Attendees will participate in panel discussions, meet with service providers, hear about programs available and actively engage with peers on subject matters of interest. Presentations will address the topics of peer support, mental health, jobs/employment, VA benefits and educational programming.
The keynote address will be delivered by Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator (SEAL) Edward C. Byers Jr., the sixth Navy SEAL in U.S. history to receive the Medal of Honor. Byers was honored for his heroic gallantry as an assault team member attached to a Joint Task Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom on December 8, 2012. He was presented the medal by President Barack Obama during a White House ceremony February 29, 2016.
Additional speakers from the community and VA, including Walter Tillman, vice president of programs at Student Veterans of America, and Dan Miller, a U.S. Marine who served in Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom and is now a speaker with Warriors Speak (a program of the Wounded Warrior Project), will round out the day’s agenda.
At the conclusion of the conference, a $1,000 scholarship, donated by Dover Federal Credit Union, will be given to a student veteran in attendance.
Conference registration is open to student veterans, military members, Reservists and National Guard Members attending any Delaware or regional institution of higher education. In addition, college/university leadership, faculty and staff who support student veterans on campus are also invited to attend. Online registration is closed.
