10 Things You Might Not Know About Delaware Tech

One thing is hard to deny at Delaware Tech – we offer a large amount of educational opportunities. We offer so many that sometimes people are astounded when they learn about our wide range of programs of study, student life, athletics, and workforce development.
Here are ten things you might not know about Delaware Technical Community College:
- Our stats.
We served more than 35,000 students last year (2017). Ninety-six percent of Delaware Tech graduates are employed or continuing their education, and 70% of our students graduate debt free. Did you know we offer more than 120 programs of study? Programs like turf management, architectural engineering technology, renewable energy solar, occupational therapy assistant, and automotive, to name a few. - Our students.
With four convenient campus locations throughout the state, 97% of our students are Delawareans. In addition, 63% of our students are women and 45% of our students are minorities. As a Military Friendly® School, we served 870 veterans (credit programs) in 2016-17 and offer an array of veteran services to ensure educational success. - Our classes.
Our average class size is 17, and the student to faculty ratio is 16:1, which allows for more hands-on learning opportunities and stronger student-faculty collaborations. - Our student life.
We offer more than 50 clubs and organizations at each campus including student government, honor societies, and groups that advance students’ career goals, such as the Radiologic Technology Club (Rad Tech) and the Criminal Justice Club. Did we mention we have ten athletic programs and numerous spring semester study abroad programs? - Our benefit to Delaware.
It's safe to say we love our small state, but employers do, too. According to our 2017 survey, more than 580 different Delaware businesses and organizations hired our graduates. We're also supporting Delaware high school and middle school students through programs like:- Delaware Pathways: Connects high school students to in-demand industry training
- Trio Programs: Support low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities
- Tech Prep: Allows Delaware high school students to earn college credit in technical skills

What is unique about Delaware Tech is the connection to the labor market. It's at the core of our mission. What does that mean? The market, depending on its changes and needs, shapes our programs. An example is our new RN-to-BSN program. - Our alumni.

Fun Fact: Delaware Tech has helped to launch several local food marvels. Examples include Paul Egnor, executive chef and brew master of Pizza by Elizabeths in Wilmington, DE; Leo Cabrera, owner of Modern Mixture in Rehoboth Beach; and Nathan Bradford, co-founder of WiLDWiCH café and food truck. - Our transformative education.
As of 2018, more than 10,000 students have benefited from the SEED (Student Excellence Equals Degree) Scholarship; meaning students met scholarship requirements and attended Delaware Tech tuition free. Beyond SEED, we offer various financial aid opportunities and scholarships. - Our commitment to job training.
Delaware Tech's Workforce Development and Community Education Division is like no other. We serve almost 20,000 people each year. People often enroll because they want to strengthen skills or embark on a new career path. Offered at each campus location, programs and certificates in healthcare, early care & education, computer training, facilities maintenance, and more give individuals the tools they need to achieve goals. We have four campus locations – Stanton, Wilmington, Dover, and Georgetown. However, some classes aren’t restricted to just meeting in a typical classroom or laboratory setting. For example, our Aviation Maintenance Technology program classes meet at the Delaware Coastal Airport in Georgetown. In addition, our nursing and allied health students spend countless hours in local hospitals and healthcare facilities.
