Terry Campus Opens On-Site Food Pantry

The College's Terry Campus in Dover, in partnership with the Harry K Foundation and the Food Bank of Delaware, has established an on-campus food pantry. The pantry opened April 15, 2019 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The no-cost pantry will be made available to current Terry Campus students or individuals who have a child enrolled at the campus Child Development Center. Through the program, food insecure individuals will be able to access emergency food and hygiene products. The Food Bank of Delaware, campus food drives, and community donations will keep the pantry stocked.
Delaware Tech now has established food pantries on three of its four campus locations and started the process following a college-wide survey where 43 percent of individuals who responded stated they had low or very low food security.
"The generosity and leadership of the Harry K Foundation and the Food Bank of Delaware made it possible to create a food pantry on this campus," said Cornelia Johnson, College vice president and director of the Terry Campus. "I am proud of what we are partnering to accomplish to make a difference in the lives of our students and their families."
Stephanie Manning-Roash, executive director of the Harry K Foundation, and Larry Haas, chief development officer for the Food Bank of Delaware, expressed similar sentiments during their comments at the opening celebration.
"Our foundation president, Harry Keswani, is committed to making sure students basic food needs are met, so we are partnering with the Food Bank of Delaware to offer school-based food pantries throughout the state," said Manning-Roash. "We are happy to be a part of helping students meet their basic food needs while they are in college and supporting them to complete their education."
Haas said, "These events are near and dear to our hearts, because it is all about getting food to the people who need it most and giving students the best chance for success."
