Remembering Maj. Gen. Carol Timmons

On Sunday, we lost a Delaware Tech graduate, Distinguished Alumni recipient, and our commencement speaker. Maj. Gen. Carol Timmons, head of the Delaware National Guard from 2017 until 2019, was one of the first female combat pilots and the first female brigadier general and adjutant general in the Delaware National Guard.
Maj. Gen. Timmons was a member of the Delaware National Guard for nearly 40 years, starting her military career as an enlisted member in law enforcement. She earned her commission in 1980, her Army pilot wings from Fort Rucker, Ala. in 1981, and was awarded her Air Force pilot wings from Vance Air Force Base in Oklahoma in 1984.
She was a veteran of numerous contingencies, including Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Joint Guard, Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom, and Inherent Resolve. Her deployed experience included command of the 774th Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, command of the 455th Deputy Operations Group and Director of Mobility Forces, U.S. Air Force Central Command.
We will miss her, but we celebrate her lifetime of extraordinary public service. The entire Delaware Tech community extends our condolences to the members of her immediate family and to her Delaware National Guard family.
