Energy Students Experience New Technology Through CaptiveAire DOAS Demonstration

Energy students on Delaware Tech’s Dover campus learned about new HVAC technology when the CaptiveAire DOAS (Dedicated Outdoor Air System) demonstration truck made a visit to campus on October 28, 2021.
Branden Moore, a student in Instructor James Horst’s NRG 226 course, organized the truck appearance for the class.
“It’s important for us to see this type of application, because we sit in class and we learn about these pieces of equipment and now we are able to put our hands on it and see the controls that we are talking about,” Moore said. “When CaptiveAire decided to bring the truck out, it was a great opportunity for all of us to see the equipment and ask questions based on what we’ve been learning so far.”
During the demonstration, students were given details on a variety of topics, including how CaptiveAire puts its equipment together, how the air is heated and reheated, and how the DOAS focuses on 100% outside air.
Above all else, James Horst wanted his students to learn an important lesson about the new technology that was shown during the demonstration.
“There is a lot of complex equipment and control systems required to condition ventilation air to the current standards imposed by the building codes,” Horst said. “This requirement is even more paramount due to the current pandemic.”
The students will be able to take the information learned and apply it to their prospective careers in the energy industry.
