Myles Surpasses 1,000 Career Points for Delaware Tech Basketball

Sophomore Syed Myles made history this season when he surpassed 1,000 career points with the Delaware Technical Community College men's basketball team.
At the very least, Myles is the first basketball player to accomplish such a feat in the past 10 seasons.
"This means a lot to me because before coming to Delaware Tech I had been told I wasn't good enough or I couldn't do this or do that," Myles said. "Now to accomplish something that is rarely done in junior college in general means the world to me.
"I not only proved other people wrong, but more importantly I proved myself right."
Myles broke the 1,000-point threshold on Feb. 11 in the first half of a game against Raritan Valley Community College. He finished his career with 1,054 points after averaging 22.6 points per game this season, leading the team in scoring overall and leading the team in scoring for 26 of 27 games. Myles played in all of Delaware Tech's 51 games during his two years at the College, never missing a single one.
"It still doesn't feel real to me, and I'm still trying to grasp that my name will forever be remembered for this," Myles said. "No matter what happens nobody can take that away, and that is a special thing."
Myles came to Delaware Tech in part because the COVID-19 pandemic threw a wrench in his original plans to enroll in McDaniel College. Initially, Myles didn't join the men's basketball team. But when some of the Delaware Tech players learned he was enrolled, they reached out to him to try out for the team.
Myles burst on the scene in 2022 by leading the team in scoring with 18 points per game while shooting 47% from the field, 38% from 3-point range, and 81% from the free-throw line. Those stats earned Myles the Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Association (EPAC) Player of the Week honors twice during the season, and NJCAA Region 19 All-Region honors at the end of the season. He was also one of the primary reasons why Delaware Tech won the NJCAA Region 19 Division II Men's Basketball Championship.
In 2023, Myles led Region 19 in scoring (22.6 points per game), total points (633), total free throws (174-for-217), and minutes played (1,049). He was named EPAC Player of the Week once during the season. Region 19 All-Region honors will be announced soon.
"Syed might be small in stature, but he is not small in heart and determination," Head Coach Richard Rago said.
Now that his two seasons at Delaware Tech are complete, Myles is hoping to continue playing basketball at a four-year institution.
