Chocolate 5k Run/Walk Draws More Than 400 Participants

The 11th annual Delaware Tech Chocolate 5k Run/Walk, held February 18, 2023, on the College’s Terry Campus in Dover, drew a field of 410 registrants. Proceeds from the event will support the Terry Campus Emergency Fund for Students.
Back on campus after being held virtually for two years, the Chocolate 5k started with Delaware Tech visual communications graduate Hannah Garey singing the National Anthem. Garey’s performance was followed by a free Kiddie K fun run with medals and a Delaware Tech T-shirt awarded to all participants. The 5k runners and walkers then tackled the single-loop course.
Following the race, participants and their guests went inside the Del-Once Conference Center for an awards ceremony and to indulge in homemade hot chocolate, freshly prepared chocolate ganache accompanied by fruit and snacks for dipping, and decadent home-baked chocolate treats all prepared by students and instructors from the campus culinary arts program.
Additional amenities included an event T-shirt, participation medals, and awards presented to overall male and female champions, overall male and female masters winners, the top three finishers in five-year age groups, and the top three male and female walkers. There were also awards for the best Valentine-themed costumes.
Primary sponsors for the Chocolate 5k were Delaware State News, Gillespie Precast, Bayhealth Medical Center, the Brainard Family, Del-One Federal Credit Union, EDiS Company, Faw Casson, BSN Sports, Chesapeake Utilities, Nickle Electrical Companies, Pratt Insurance, R&R Commercial Realty, Richard Y. Johnson & Son, ContactLifeline, Delaware Elevator, and Cornelia Johnson.
Next year’s Chocolate 5k Run/Walk will once again be a sweet event for the whole family, so please save the date of Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024.
