Myers Sets New Marks for Delaware Tech Softball

Macey Myers will forever have her name etched in the history books of Delaware Technical Community College softball.

After being named a two-time National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 First Team All-Region player and a 2022 NJCAA All-American, there weren't many individual accomplishments left for Myers to accomplish at Delaware Tech. But, she checked off two more when she became the first player in program history to eclipse both 100 hits and 100 RBI in a career during a doubleheader with Anne Arundel Community College on March 6.

As of March 15, Myers has 110 career hits and 115 career RBI, and the team has 33 games remaining in the regular season.

"I wasn't expecting to do this but it's nice to see my hard work pay off," Myers said. "My focus is to work on things that I feel I need to improve so I can do my best for the team.

"I keep my routine the same so I can stay consistent and it seems to be paying off so I'm very thankful for that."

Myers was named Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Conference Player of the Week for softball due to her outstanding stats during the teams first four games of the 2023 season. She batted 9-for-11 with 6 doubles, 1 home run, and 9 RBI.

Due to her freshman season being held in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic, Myers, and all of the other players who were freshmen that season, received a rare third year of eligibility from the NJCAA. As a freshman, she recorded 39 hits, 44 RBI, and had a batting average of .494. The next season, she blew those numbers out of the water with 58 hits, 59 RBI, and a .460 batting average.

"What Macey has done is incredible," Head Coach Guy Wilkins said. "It's something that is very rare. You'll see a lot of Division 1 players who don't have those numbers in three years."

While Myers technically accomplished both over parts of three seasons, she ultimately did it in just 64 games. Her freshman season was shortened by at least five games due to other schools not competing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since she only needed two games in her third season to break 100 hits, she likely would've done it sooner if she had played the regular amount of games during her first season.

Since 2013, a few Delaware Tech softball players have come relatively close to achieving either 100 hits or 100 RBI, but one player has never been close to that number in both categories.

"Macey hits the ball really well and is such a hard worker when it comes to perfecting her hitting," Wilkins said. "She has been and continues to be very consistent. She has a lot of power, drives in a lot of runs, and is just one of a kind."
