New Castle County Science Fair Held at Stanton Campus

The 28th annual New Castle County Science Fair was hosted on the Stanton Campus this month, drawing 75 middle and high school students motivated to seek solutions to modern dilemmas. The goal of the event was to boost students’ interest in STEM careers, develop their presentation skills, and empower them to challenge the familiar. Thirteen county schools were represented.
The student projects were reviewed by 50 volunteer judges and 53 awards were presented, including 49 financial awards totaling $8,025 that were gifted to students in the categories of Best in Show (individual and teams), and the DE BioGENEius Awards. Winners from this regional fair advance to the Delaware Valley Science Fair at Drexel University in April where students will compete with others from the tristate area for the opportunity to present at the International Science and Engineering Fair in May.
The students’ research topics included behavioral and social science, computer science, microbiology, zoology, and botany, just to name a few. Among the student research activities were testing popular consumer products, experimenting with soil nutrients, and inventing a device that eases the burden of a debilitating condition.
Local businesses throughout the state invested in these future STEM leaders through volunteer judging and financial sponsorships totaling $14,500. Delaware Tech extends a special thank you to the primary sponsors: Agilent Technologies, Inc., CRODA, Inc., Fujifilm Imaging Colorants, Inc., Delaware City Refinery Company, Incyte, Delaware Bio, and Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership. That support not only provided the monetary awards for Science Fair winners but also scholarships for the Summer Science Academy participants.
The 29th annual New Castle County Science Fair will be held on March 5-7, 2024. For more details, visit our webpage at go.dtcc.edu/sciencefair to support the future scientists of our community.
