Delaware Tech’s Annual Hometown Heroes 5K Raises Funds for Student Scholarships

More than 300 runners and walkers joined Delaware Technical Community College employees, students, and volunteers on Sept. 20 for the annual Hometown Heroes 5k Run/1 Mile Walk hosted by the College’s Stanton and Wilmington campuses. This year’s race raised over $11,000 for student scholarships.
For the second year in a row, event activities took place in front of the 100-year-old Rockford Tower at Rockford Park in Wilmington. Volunteers included students from the education and physical therapy assistant programs. In addition to the run/walk, the event also included post-race refreshments, music, children’s activities, and raffle prizes.
The top runners included first-place male Kyle Hoffman with a time of 17:31, and first-place female Joelle Prettyman with a time of 20:48.
