Mumford and Kruger Join Softball Coaching Staff

When Delaware Tech’s softball team takes the field this spring to defend its region and district championships, there will be two new faces helping lead the team in new assistant coaches Sami Mumford and Kylie Kruger.

“They are both great people and they were both great players,” Head Coach Guy Wilkins said. “I’m hoping they will be able to pass along both of those qualities to the student-athletes that come through our program.

“They also both love the sport and are dedicated to helping recruit new athletes and continuing to grow the program.”

Mumford was head coach of the Millsboro Middle School girls’ softball program in 2022 and 2023. She was a four-year starter at Salisbury University and a four-year varsity player at Indian River High School. Mumford also played travel softball for the Diamond State Swoop, Delaware Diamonds, and Delaware Express, starting as a 9-and-under and finishing as a 23-and-under. She is currently a physical education teacher at Millsboro Middle School.

“I’m looking forward to helping a new generation of players achieve excellence on the field and in life,” Mumford said. “I hope they will learn that as you increase the level at which you play at, the talent gap closes, so the difference in achievement will come by the willingness to put in the effort.”

Kruger graduated from Delaware Tech in 2023 with a degree in elementary education and is currently enrolled in the College’s Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program. She was a two-year starter for Delaware Tech’s softball team, earning most valuable player honors in 2022 and National Junior College Athletic Association Region 19 All-Region honors in 2022 and 2023. She was a key player in Delaware Tech winning the region and district championships in 2022 and 2023, qualifying for the national championship tournament both years. Kruger was also the recipient of the 2023 Campus Director’s Award. Prior to coming to Delaware Tech, Kruger was a four-year varsity starter at Sussex Technical High School where she was named an all-state utility player in 2021.

“I’m happy to have the opportunity to impact our student-athletes,” Kruger said. “I want to not only develop great players on the softball field, but great people in their life, school, and the community.”
