STANTON and WILMINGTON - Delaware Tech hosted the 2013 Entrepreneurship Business Plan Competition, a challenge for students in Delaware Tech’s Entrepreneurship program. The event was held at the Emerging Enterprise Center of the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce. Twenty-three students competed in the third annual event, before a panel of 13 judges from the Delaware business community. Full Story

STANTON and WILMINGTON - Dr. Virginia Balke, a Delaware Tech biology and biotechnology professor, has been selected as the higher education Educator of the Year by the Delaware BioScience Association. She will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the Delaware Bio Annual Awards Gala, the premiere bioscience event in Delaware. Full Story

Students in two sections (a day and an evening) of a Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) course recently competed in a race of electric go-karts that they designed and built by hand. The course, which is the capstone before graduation, challenges MET students to solve a technical problem; this year’s problem was to design and build an electric go-kart capable of going up a six degree incline and fit the average U.S. male from 13-45 years of age. STANTON and WILMINGTON - Participation in gardening and recognition of the importance of organic, local food are increasing both in higher education and in society at large. Composting organic material and growing food locally and organically reduces dependence on fossil fuels, reduces carbon footprint and has many beneficial health impacts. Full Story

STANTON – When Frank Adkins, an automotive instructor at Delaware Tech’s Stanton Campus, first laid eyes on the 1964 Dodge Dart he would later name “Rusty” in 2008, he thought he was just buying a parts car. “The body was in terrible shape, riddled with dings and dents, and what wasn’t dented was rusted,” he remembers.
