Instruction, Design, and Technology Certificate

Certificate Program

Successfully preparing instructors to be effective users of educational technology is a critical component in helping to solve many of our current educational challenges. The adoption of new and emerging technologies within academia has only continued to grow and offers even more reason to be hopeful. This program prepares instructors to be better able to help their students comprehend difficult-to-understand concepts, engage in active learning, access information and resources, and meet their individual needs. The effective use of technology has proven to enhance learning, as well as improve student engagement and achievement.

The mission of the Instruction, Design, and Technology Certificate program is to prepare educators to design, develop, deliver, and evaluate engaging educational opportunities and experiences to promote student success. The program enables educators to effectively employ emergent technologies in a variety of modes and settings.

This program is offered at the Dover, Georgetown, Wilmington, and Stanton Campuses.

What You Can Do

The certificate is designed for a variety of educators including instructors, teachers, academic administrators, education and training professionals, military and government trainers, as well as other learning and curriculum specialists. In short, the program of study is appropriate for anyone seeking to improve learning through the latest technological innovations.

The Program Graduate Competencies listed below identify the major learning goals related to your specific program of study and identify the knowledge and skills you will have when you graduate to be successful in your chosen field.

  1. Develop and apply a dynamic approach to teaching that is grounded in pedagogical principles and an appreciation for the needs of diverse learners.
  2. Design and develop learner-centered courses based on sound instructional design principles.
  3. Apply learner-centered instructional strategies to enhance student engagement, learning, and success.
  4. Design and implement a variety of formative and summative assessments to evaluate learning, communicate feedback, and guide instruction.
  5. Leverage appropriate technologies to advance teaching and learning.
  6. Engage in continuous development to maximize instructional effectiveness.
