If students are unable to provide indicators to demonstrate college readiness, they may take our college placement test or choose to start in a support course to help refresh their skills while also being enrolled in their college-level courses.. Below is a brief overview of each portion of the placement test and sample questions to help you prepare.
Reading
The reading portion of the ACCUPLACER test measures your understanding of what you read and your understanding of words and phrases in short and extended contexts. The link below will help you prepare for the Reading portion of the test:
WritePlacer
For the WritePlacer portion of the ACCUPLACER test, you will be asked to write an essay of 300 to 600 words to measure how effectively you can develop and express your ideas in writing. This link will help you prepare for the WritePlacer portion of the test:
Mathematics
The math portion of the ACCUPLACER test is based upon quantitative reasoning, algebra, and statistics. Questions will focus on a range of topics including computing with rational numbers, applying ratios and proportional reasoning, creating linear expressions and equations, graphing and applying linear equations, understanding probability and set notation, and interpreting graphical displays. In addition, questions may assess a student’s math ability via computational or fluency skills, conceptual understanding, or the capacity to apply mathematics presented in a context. All questions are multiple choice in format and appear discretely (stand alone) across the assessment. This link will help you prepare for the mathematics and advanced algebra portions of the test.
English As A Second Language
Students with whom English is their second language may need to take the Levels of English Proficiency (LOEP) tests, which include language usage, sentence meaning, and reading skills. The ESL language usage test consists of 20 multiple choice questions and measures your proficiency in using correct grammar in English sentences. The ESL sentence meaning test consists of 20 multiple choice questions and measures how well you understand the meaning of sentences in English.
