Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form should be filed as soon as possible after January 1 of the year for which you are applying for fall admission.

Do this as soon after January 1 as possible, preferably after your federal income tax forms have been filed.  It is recommended that you wait two (2) weeks after you submit your taxes to the IRS to complete your FAFSA.  This will allow you to take advantage of the IRS Tax Retrieval System, transferring your tax information directly into the FAFSA.

Be sure to carefully read the instructions and fill out every space requiring a response.

Upon the receipt of the FAFSA application, the Central Processing System analyzes your family’s financial status on the basis of the confidential information submitted by you, and then sends this analysis to the colleges you specify.
