Alumna Experiences all Facets of Delaware Tech
Ann Camper has spent a great deal of time at Delaware Tech - As a child she attended summer camps. In high school she was accepted into the Upward Bound Math and Science Center. She later enrolled and earned two degrees. Today she is an adjunct instructor.
“I have a deeply unique connection with the College,” Camper stated, noting that with her teaching role she has come full circle. “I see the same passion in my students as I have for this profession and am excited to see the positive impacts Delaware Tech will have on their careers and lives.”
All of her Delaware Tech experiences were beneficial, but Camper, the first in her family to successfully complete college, believes Upward Bound was most helpful.
“I can’t speak highly enough about the program,” she said. “It offered so many opportunities to experience education and grow as an individual.”
After leaving a four-year college, Camper enrolled at Delaware Tech with the thought she would spend a year here and get herself grounded. But once engaged in the Architectural Engineering Technology program, something clicked.
“Every day was enjoyable,” she said. “David Pedersen (her instructor at the time) was so enthusiastic that it was contagious. He had such a passion that it was inspirational.”
Faculty like Pedersen - now the program’s Department Chair on the Owens Campus - greatly impacted and influenced Camper.
“My instructors were not just teaching from a textbook,” she said. “They were working full-time in the field and offering real-life and real-world experiences.”
Camper secured a job at Becker Morgan Group before she graduated and received such support from her employer that she went on to secure a second degree in Architectural Interior Design. She remains part of Becker Morgan Group and reflects positively on the journey she’s taken.
“I would not change the path I took to get here,” she said. “In the same amount of time many of my peers spent seeking a bachelor’s degree and accumulating debt, I was able to receive a relevant education, gain on-the-job experience and leave school without any student loan debt. Furthermore, I was able to sit for and pass the NCIDQ examination, the hallmark of professionalism in the interior design industry."
