Healthcare Courses - Rapid Workforce Training

Delaware Tech was awarded funding to provide free workforce training in the area of healthcare. The below schedule will be offered at campuses statewide between October 2020 and March 2021. This free training program was made possible by a Department of Labor grant intended to help the unemployed and underemployed.  Seating is limited.

Candidates must attend an information session and meet eligibility requirements, which include:

  • Availability for regular attendance each day
  • Possession of a Social Security card
  • Proof of birthdate and US residency
  • The desire to work full-time

Other eligibility requirements will be discussed at the mandatory information session.

Courses are offered in a hybrid format. Hybrid programs conduct the majority of training in an online training format; with some clinical or lab portions conducted in-person, in a small group setting, on the campus or at a clinical partner site. Locations and times/dates will vary depending upon course requirements.

Certified Clinical Medical Administrative Assistant
This program will provide training to prepare you to handle all aspects of the medical office setting from the front office in-patient intake and scheduling, to assisting the doctor by taking vitals and drawing blood for prescribed tests. In this course, you will learn how to perform administrative duties, as well as clinical and non-clinical duties. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to sit for the Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) and the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant national exam (CMAAC). Tuition includes books, background/drug screening, uniforms, and certification exams.

Certified Nursing Assistant
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) students learn to safely perform basic nursing skills under the supervision of a licensed nurse in a health care facility. Communication, observation, documentation, and computer skills are incorporated to aid the student in meeting the psychological, physical, and environmental needs of the patient through theory, lab, and clinical experience. Following successful completion of this course, the student will be qualified to take the Nurse Aid Competency Examination for certification. Tuition includes books, uniform, certification exam, CPR, drug screening and criminal background check.

Dental Assistant
This course prepares students in the fundamentals of dental assisting. You’ll receive hands-on training in dental center or lab and participate in an internship in a local dental practice. Upon successful completion students will achieve the Delaware State Radiology Certification as well as become CPR certified. All textbooks, uniforms, certification exam, and CPR certification included.

Hemodialysis
Hemodialysis Technicians work closely with patients who are chronically ill, many of the duties of a Hemodialysis technician are clinical in nature, but many facilities also require supportive staff to help with maintenance and administrative tasks. Students will learn setup and operation of treatment machines, maintaining a clean work setting, communicating with members of the medical team, and providing physical and emotional support to the patients. Students will can earn up to three stackable credentials, including C.N.A., Phlebotomy, and Hemodialysis as well as a CPR certification.  Students will receive multiple clinical experiences.

Patient Care Technician
The Patient Care Technician program will prepare students to have multiple credentials in one of the fastest-growing areas in health care today. Students will train in aspects of patient care, phlebotomy, EKG readings, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and BLS certification. Tuition includes textbooks, scrubs, background check, drug screen, supplies, Patient Care Technician certification exam, Phlebotomy Technician exam, state C.N.A. certification exam, BLS certification, and internship/clinical lab experience.

Pharmacy Technician
Students will be trained to perform the duties of a pharmacy technician in both retail and hospital settings. Program elements include pharmacy theory and lab including pharmacy fundamentals, math, physiology, records and inventory, and HIPAA regulations and compliance. Program includes internship rotations, one in a hospital and one in a retail setting. Tuition includes books, uniform, certification exam, and background/drug screening. Upon completion, students will be scheduled for the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam.

Phlebotomy
This course is certified by the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT). Students are trained to perform a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and precautions. Classes are taught in lecture, student laboratory and through clinical experiences. ASPT certification exam will be administered at the conclusion of the program. Textbooks, background/drug screening, uniforms, certification exam, and CPR certification included.
