Infection Control and Prevention

Through a partnership with the Delaware Division of Public Health, Delaware Tech is pleased to offer training related to infection prevention and control. This project is funded through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Project Firstline, a comprehensive infection control program designed to help prevent the spread of infectious diseases in U.S. healthcare settings. The content is designed so that regardless of a healthcare worker’s previous training or educational background they can understand and confidently apply the infection control principles and protocols necessary to protect themselves, their facility, their family, and their community from infectious disease threats, such as COVID-19.

Courses are free and open-enrollment.

Students can take the courses listed below in sequence or they can mix and match.

Additional sections offered as needed – based on demand. Please check back as new courses will be developed as the CDC releases new content through this project.

Current Courses
Introduction to Infection Control
This course will cover the basic ideas behind infection control, and how they apply to COVID-19. You will learn how infection control actions help keep you, your patients, your coworkers, and your community safe. The course will also cover hand hygiene since it plays an important in infection control because it reduces the spread of germs from you to patients and the environment, and from patients and the environment to you.
Basic Science of Viruses
This course will cover the basic science of viruses, including information on viral variants. Additionally, you will learn about respiratory droplets and how COVID-19 gets from one person to another.
How Does COVID-19 Spread?
The course will cover how the virus can be transmitted by respiratory droplets and on surfaces.
The Role of PPE in Infection Prevention
This course covers how PPE is part of the equipment that you use to protect yourself, patients, and co-workers, and to keep germs from spreading in the environment. It covers eye protection, gloves, and gowns.
How to Safely Use a Multi-Does Vaccine Vial
This course will cover the important safety actions to follow when using multi-dose vials.
