Fire Protection Technician Certificate I

Are you ready to get started as a Certified Fire Protection Technician? Delaware Tech’s 210-hour revitalized Fire Protection Program provides trainees with the necessary knowledge and skills to help save lives, property, and the very businesses where we live and work. Each year thousands of U.S. citizens are injured or perish as a result of an uncontrolled fire. By becoming a Certified Fire Protection Technician, you will serve to keep businesses and homes safe from unwanted fires and smoke damage.

The six-part Certification Program includes the completion of the following:

  • OSHA Construction Safety - EYP 703
  • Fire Protection Fundamentals (FPT 101) - EYP 711
  • Fire Codes and Standards (FPT 102) - EYP 712
  • Fire Safe Building Construction Components (FPT 103) - EYP 713
  • Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems (FPT 104) - EYP 714
  • Fire Alarm and Low Voltage Security Systems (FPT 105) - EYP 715

Fire Protection Fundamentals (FPT 101)

This exciting course is a study of the nation's fire experience with an overview of the technology and techniques used to protect people and property. Fire codes, detection and alarm systems, water-based sprinkler systems, introductory hydraulic principles, building construction types, and fire protection ethics are covered along with human behavior in fire situations.

Fire Codes and Standards (FPT 102)

Regulation / Ordinance / Code / Standard – Which one should I use? Learn about fire prevention regulations, the Life Safety Code®, and building codes. Fire protection standards and their role in safeguarding people and property are discussed while activities apply lecture subjects to realistic situations.

Fire Safe Building Construction Components (FPT 103)

It is more than just a roof over our heads! A study in the differing construction types and classifications, building components and systems will also be highlighted, with a discussion on emerging trends in the built environment.

Automatic Fire Sprinkler Systems (FPT 104)

Automatic Sprinkler Systems are ready to protect, but they are not like the movies! This course integrates discussion on the varying system types, hardware / components, hazard classes, basic system design, water supply information with hands-on use and practice of the systems.

Fire Alarm and Low Voltage Security Systems (FPT 105)

Newer and more advanced technologies have created a multitude of opportunities in how we interact and communicate...and the same is true for fire alarm systems / security systems. This course provides an essential review on the various fire alarm system types, components, basic system design, battery calculations, and the fundamentals of low-voltage I, CAT, security alarms, with hands-on fire alarm use.
