Technical Training Summer Academies

CompTIA A+ “IT Technical Support” Certification

Comp TIA A+ is the most essential IT certification for establishing an IT career. Students will build a desktop computer during this course as part of their hardware and software certification training. Upon completion, each student will be able to take their individual computer home. This course is designed to fully prepare you to sit for the CompTIA A+ certification exam. Textbook and computer equipment included; exam fee is not included.

Construction Technology

Delaware Tech’s 300-hour Construction Technology program was designed to provide entry-level skills in a variety of construction trades. This includes carpentry, drywall, masonry, electricity, HVAC basics, weatherization, and plumbing. Participants will become skilled in different phases of a construction project from start to finish. Once completing this program, participants will hold their nationally recognized OSHA-10 Construction Safety Certification as well as be able to frame walls, ceilings, and floors of a structure, install siding and roofing materials, install and finish drywall, utilize proper painting techniques, mix and install concrete and concrete blocks, interpret construction drawings, and install the proper wiring and piping for basic electrical and plumbing systems. This program uses the National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) training materials and curriculum guidelines, and the NCCER textbook is included.

Heavy Equipment Operator

Delaware Tech’s 16-week Heavy Equipment Operator Program is a truly unique, hands-on comprehensive program designed to fill the current needs of local employers. The program was developed with industry experts in Delaware utilizing the nationally recognized NCCER curriculum. Students learn how to perform on the job site as skilled craftsman as well as how to operate heavy equipment through both classroom instruction, simulator training, and “in-the-seat” equipment operation. With an aging workforce and large percentage of the industry that is ready to retire, NOW is the time to train for your construction career! Training will include:

  • OSHA Construction Safety
  • Safe Forklift Operator Certificate
  • ATSSA National Flagger Certification
  • Construction Drawings
  • Site and Land Surveying
  • Earth Moving & Excavation
  • Machinery Operations
  • Basic Equipment Maintenance
  • Simulator and live seat time operating: skid steer equipment, backhoe, excavator, loaders, and dozers

Production Technician I

Begin your career in 2022 as a production technician in the Manufacturing & Distribution Industries! These jobs are in high demand, and our revised 195- hour program has been designed for students to obtain the basic fundamental skills needed in today’s high tech electro-mechanical environment. Utility Training Academy

Participants in this unique free training program will learn the tools of the utilities trade, OSHA safety, forklift operator safety, how to use simple machines (levers, gears, pulleys), electricity basics, (current, conductors, insulators, resistance), natural gas basics (properties, sources, delivery), math for the trades, reading comprehension review, test-taking strategies, and employability and soft skills training.

This class will meet this summer on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings (from 5:30-9:00pm) at Delaware Tech’s Innovation Technology Center in New Castle (97 Parkway Circle) starting on Monday, June 13th. A Sussex County class section will also take place at the Delaware Tech Georgetown Campus this fall.
