Meet the Faculty and Staff
Becky Evaristo
Becky Evaristo is a Program Manager for Delaware Tech's Upward Bound Math & Science Center. She started at Delaware Tech in 1994, when she worked with the Educational Talent Search program. Before starting at the College, Evaristo was a self-described "old fashioned stay-at-home mom." Outside of work, Evaristo enjoys spoiling her grandsons, volunteering at her church (where she works with high school teens), and works out at S.W.E.A.T. in Seaford. She has no real plans for the near future, as she loves what she's doing and is having fun doing it. But, she's always open to new journeys and new challenges.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?
"The people! We have so much talent just on one campus alone that boggles one's mind. We have the nicest people that are willing to help when you need it."
Q: Why was it important for you to work at Delaware Tech?
"Back when I was getting my associate degree here, as I neared graduation, I was asked where I would hope to get a job. I instinctively responded that I would like to work here. I saw how the faculty interacted with the students and each other. I wanted to do that."
Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?
"My first day working was for the Educational Talent Search program, I was excited but apprehensive. I looked forward to working as a tutor with students in a program I knew nothing about! After learning about TRIO programs, I have become a champion of TRIO ever since."
Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?
"Delaware Tech was my very first 'real' job. I learned so much from office etiquette to teamwork to now running the program myself. I never thought this would happen."
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech thus far?
"I had a student who told me unexpectedly during her junior year of high school, that she wanted to fly. I explained to her that a pilot's license is not cheap. She responded, 'I am not going to pay for it, the military will.' I was aghast. I told her she had to have a portfolio done in order to apply for an appointment to a military academy. She told me that she had it covered. She was able to get an appointment from Sen. Carper to the USAF Academy. She graduated two years ago. Two weeks ago, she posted on Facebook with a picture of herself in a helicopter landing in the desert in Arizona. She is flying!"
Q: What's something people may not know about you?
"I was born in Madrid, Spain and carried a dual citizenship until I turned 18. I am also very close to completing my Masters of Business Administration in Organizational Leadership."
