Meet the Faculty and Staff
Malinda Hudson
Malinda Hudson is the Human Services Department Chair that has been working for Delaware Tech since August 2016. Before coming to Delaware Tech, Malinda worked for the Division of Developmental Disabilities Services, the Division of State Service Centers, and the Division of Social Services. In those roles, she supervised social workers and was an intern site supervisor. Outside of Delaware Tech, she loves to sing and roller skate, and is involved in her community through volunteering at her church and with other organizations. She is working toward finishing her doctoral degree, and is the proud single parent of one daughter.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?
"I have always wanted to be in higher education. I love the fact that this a realized goal."
Q: Why was it important for you to work at Delaware Tech?
"Delaware Tech is in the community I grew up in. I attended Delaware Tech in the '80s. I wasn’t as focused then and didn’t finish. However, I understand the importance of the education received here and the stepping stone that makes higher learning possible for a lot of students who would not otherwise have this opportunity."
Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?
"The first day was very interesting. I had undergone surgery on my right foot two weeks prior to starting so I arrived on a scooter. Maneuvering was a challenge, but nothing dulled the excitement of being in a position and the opportunity to do something I’ve always wanted to do – teach in higher education full-time."
Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?
"I’ve come to appreciate the learning environment even more, understanding the significance of the instruction process as lives are being shaped. I’ve completed New Faculty Development and have more skills to incorporate into the learning process. I want to keep students engaged and present. I don’t want this process to go by in a blur, but for them to take the time to consider the impact they want to make in their communities."
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech thus far?
"Without a doubt, my first graduation as faculty was the best. I bought a bullhorn for the specific purpose of letting the students of my department know their instructors were there for them and cheering just as loudly as their families. I'm so very proud and excited for what they’ll accomplish as they move forward."
Q: What’s something people may not know about you?
"It may not be apparent right away as I’ve been told I have a very stern demeanor and I can be hard, but I want all of my students to thrive in this process. I want them to be successful and accomplish every goal they can dream for themselves. I consider it a privilege, blessing, and honor to be able to assist them in this journey. I’m also the very proud single parent of one daughter. I consider her the best gift I’ve ever received… even in the teenage years. I do what I do for her."
