Lou Spinelli
Automotive Instructor
Lou Spinelli is a Delaware Technical Community College alumnus and has been an employee of the college for nearly 30 years. He enjoys working with the staff and students who have become like a second family for him. "Working at Delaware Tech means coming back to the place that both of my brothers and I graduated from, and giving that same opportunity to all of the automotive students who have passed through our doors since."
When he's not teaching, Lou enjoys travelling to new places, and riding his mountain and road bikes. He also, of course, has a car collection that he enjoys taking to new destinations, racing competitions, road rallies, autocrosses, drag races and club events with his family and friends.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?
"Every day is a new adventure. No matter how well planned you think you are for a normal day; there is always a new twist. It is never boring. You meet the most interesting people working here at Delaware Tech."
Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?
"Interestingly enough, the day I taught my very first class, I was the youngest person in the classroom. I can assure you that I never have that scenario occur any longer. I used to imagine all of the things that I could attain. Now I can look back at all of those experiences with a rich sense of accomplishment. I feel I’m the luckiest person in that I have had the opportunity to work with the greatest team of people in my department to help provide access, opportunity, excellence, and hope to our students like never before."
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech thus far?
"I have been associated with Delaware Tech since 1988 when our Stanton automotive department first formed. During those 30 years, I have seen and experienced many amazing adventures and have collaborated many worthwhile lifetime memories. Most of my favorite memories from Delaware Tech include watching each of our graduates walk across that stage and earn the degree that unlocks their future as it did for me and all those before us."
Q: Do you have any future goals?
"In the future, I look forward to taking the time to explore the rest of the 7 continents along with the 5 oceans as I retire."
