Meet the Faculty and Staff
Shannon Wright
Shannon Wright is a Student Enrichment Coordinator who has been working for Delaware Tech since 2004. He has been part of the College since 2001 when he started as a work study student. He works in the Educational Talent Search program, which was created in 1965 by the U.S. Congress to encourage qualified students to continue their education. Shannon graduated from high school in 2001 and obtained his first full-time job in 2003 thanks to an internship through the Human Services program. He worked for Children and Families First full time while working at Delaware Tech part time, and continued to attend college. He ended up working in a residential/day treatment center for youth with behavioral and mental health challenges for eight years, the last three as a supervisor. Outside of work, Shannon is a proud member of the Georgetown-Millsboro Rotary Club and owns and operates his own power washing business called Precision Power Washing, LLC. In the future, he hopes to continue his education in a business or entrepreneurship concentration and continue to build his community through service above self.
Q: What is your favorite thing about working at Delaware Tech?
"I enjoy working with all the constituents and stakeholders involved in the Educational Talent Search program in our local public high schools. It's great to see my participants matriculate into the appropriate form of post-secondary education of their choice and finish. Often, I see the graduates on campus and in the community, and it's great to hear their progress and successes."
Q: Why was it important for you to work at Delaware Tech?
"It was important for me to work at Delaware Tech because it was truly a place of refuge for me coming from a disadvantaged background as a student. Now as an employee, I have an opportunity to empower teenagers with similar backgrounds and help pull out their intrinsic GRIT and GRIND so they can SHINE through the attainment of post-secondary education!"
Q: Describe your first day at Delaware Tech. What was that experience like?
"It was pleasant and welcoming as an employee because I was already familiar with the (Georgetown) campus as I worked in the mailroom with Harry Trammell during a couple summers in high school and then again as a work-study student. I knew most of the employees because I delivered mail to them."
Q: What changes have you seen in yourself since you started working here?
"I can say that I'm more organized and less shy since I started working here."
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time at Delaware Tech thus far?
"One of my favorite memories at Delaware Tech thus far was within my first five years of employment. During one of the Employee Recognition events in Dover, I grabbed around $50 in a cash blowing machine. Needless to say, that was the last time I saw that activity during an event!"
Q: What's something people may not know about you?
"I have a spoiled Yorkie-Poo named Aggie, and she has my heart!"
