WILMINGTON – On Saturday, October 13, 2012, Delaware Tech’s Stanton and Wilmington Campuses hosted its 2nd annual Flavors of the World Food and Wine Tasting event. The event showcased international cuisine prepared by the Delaware Tech Culinary Arts and Food Service Management Departments. With over 100 participants, the event raised more than $5,000 for study abroad scholarships for those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to broaden their educational horizons.
Attendees enjoyed food and drinks from Germany, Spain, China and Mexico. Entertainment was provided by the Fabulous 49ers. “Flavors of the World is a fun night that supports a great cause – giving Delaware Tech students the chance to explore a new culture,” said Bruce Thorngate, international education coordinator, instructor and Flavors of the World Co-chair.
Delaware Tech’s International Education Program promotes international awareness and global understanding amongst students, faculty, and community members. The school offers study abroad programs, student and faculty exchanges, cross-cultural research and collaboration, and campus events to promote global engagement.
"The Study Abroad program afforded me the luxury of being able to travel to China. This was the perfect forum in which to experience a different culture,” said Juli Codding, a Delaware Tech student who travelled to China in May 2012. “Everything was planned – from guides that were able to translate for us to visits to other colleges and universities. We had an action-packed 10 days filled with natural and man-made wonders and ancient architecture to state-of-the-art engineering. Between grants and scholarships, Delaware Tech provided me with an experience of a lifetime.”
