Alondra Lara

Alondra Lara, a first-generation college student, came to Delaware Tech to be a role model for her siblings. She knew she wanted to be around people and help others, and that led her to choose to diagnostic medical sonography program. "Sonography is so important because you are the eyes of the radiologist; if the tech doesn't see it, neither will the doctor."

Alondra has had to overcome many obstacles during her time as a college student, including health issues. "I was unable to work, so I had to be dependent while I finished the rest of the school year. The workload for school just kept getting bigger and bigger."

Since coming to Delaware Tech, Alondra has "built a foundation and structure" for her life. "My life consists of the same routine every day and I love it: School, study, gym." One of her favorite memories from her time in college thus far is "going to Christiana Care's library every night with some of my classmates to study."

She advises her peers to always ask for help, study, and to prioritize their education. "At the end of the day, no one can take away the knowledge you hold; the more you know, the more you're worth."

After earning her associate degree from Delaware Tech, Alondra plans to find a job in her field. Her dream is to be an ultrasound tech doing both vascular and abdomen.
