Biby Escobar

Biby Escobar is a first-generation college student, meaning she is the first in her family to go to college. "I wanted to not only make my parents proud, but also work hard for the future I desire.” She chose Delaware Tech because of the affordable tuition and convenient location.

Biby has wanted to pursue a career as a pediatrician since high school. "I knew that completing my undergraduate studies in biological sciences was a good start."

During her first semester, Biby said she, "was not in a good place mentally, and that was reflected in my grades." She turned it around the following semester, earning her the opportunity to join the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society.

Since coming to Delaware Tech, Biby said she has become more open-minded and involved in her community. "Becoming involved has introduced me to some of the most inspiring people I have ever met."

When asked what advice she had for other students at Delaware Tech, Biby recommended taking yourself out of your comfort zone. "It's taking those risks that helps you grow as an individual and reach your goals. This can be done by asking for help, utilizing campus resources you’ve always avoided, or even joining a club you find interesting."

Biby's favorite Delaware Tech memory is serving as a New Student Orientation Leader. "It was one of the first College activities I took part in, and it introduced me to many students and faculty." She credits Mike McCloskey, one of her PTK advisors, for pushing her outside her comfort zone and inspiring her to become involved in College events. "By doing this, he has helped me develop leadership skills and build character."

After graduating from Delaware Tech, Biby plans to transfer to a four-year institution in pursuit of a bachelor's of science degree in biological sciences.
