Celina Lombardi
Bachelor of Science in Education
Since she was little, Celina Lombardi has always had a passion for the learning process. She grew up in dance and worked as a dance teacher when she was 14-17 years old, working with children ages 3-11.
“I’ve always loved seeing that moment when kids have the lightbulb go off in their head and they learn something,” Lombardi said. “While it may have been challenging to teach them at times, it was also really fun to see how happy they would get.”
When she entered Sussex Technical High School, Lombardi’s passion for teaching was fueled by several of her teachers and she knew her career path was born.
“I’ve become very passionate about the education system,” she said.
The SEED Scholarship was a driving force for Lombardi to enroll at Delaware Tech. Plus, she was able to remain at the College after obtaining her associate degree in elementary education by being accepted into the first cohort of students in the Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE) program.
“I know when I become a teacher, I won’t necessarily have the biggest salary, so I felt like getting two years for free through SEED was my best bet,” Lombardi said. “I’ve also had a really good education here, so when the bachelor’s program was announced, I made sure to apply.”
Lombardi said being a part of the first class of students in the BSE has been a memorable experience.
“It has been really good,” she said. “I have loved it and I would definitely recommend it to others.”
Once she graduates, Lombardi said her goal is to being teaching at a Delaware elementary school. She originally thought she wanted to teach second grade, but recently her preference has moved to fifth grade. She feels prepared to take what she has learned at Delaware Tech and apply it to her own classroom.
“We have spent a lot of time in our classes working with cultural responsive teaching and being able to represent and mirror the different cultures in your classroom through your lessons, word problems, and literature,” Lombardi said. “What I’ve learned through literature and lesson plans and fostering relationships will help me in the long run.”
