Kaitlyn Cavallucci
Production Agriculture
Once she volunteered on the farms her aunts and uncles own in South Carolina, Kaitlyn Cavallucci knew she wanted to become a farmer. To achieve that dream, she utilized the SEED scholarship to attend Delaware Tech.
"I really want to follow in their footsteps and do what they are doing on their farms," she said.
Besides enrolling in production agriculture and learning about agribusiness management, Cavallucci also became one of the best female cross country runners in Delaware Tech history.
She finished her two seasons on the cross country team as a two-time NJCAA Region 19 All-Region runner, a one-time NJCAA Region 19 champion, a one-time Eastern Pennsylvania Athletic Association champion, and the owner of the fourth-fastest 5k time in school history.
"Participating in a sport helps me with my studies," Cavallucci said. "On my days off of running, I get my schoolwork done in the morning so that when it comes to practice time, I`m all done with my schoolwork and I don't have to think about it anymore."
During her first semester, Cavallucci made a bit of a mistake by enrolling in six classes. That forced her to balance her free time with studying and finishing all of her assignments. She said she was extremely happy to get through that first semester and pass those six classes. Since then, she has made sure to only enroll in four classes per semester.
"While I took those six classes I was stressed and overwhelmed every other day," Cavallucci said. "But by the end, I was thankful that all of my six classes were done. After having that experience, I will never take six classes again."
Besides finding the right balance of classes to take, Cavallucci stressed the importance of getting involved for a prospective or new student to be successful.
"My advice would be to work hard and try to get involved in a sport where you can make some friends because that really helps if you are just starting somewhere new," she said.
Cavallucci's favorite class experience so far was a Learning Community trip to Vanderwende Dairy Farm where she had a lot of fun with her classmates and teachers and also learned a lot about her field of study.
After graduation, she would love to work at either Fifer Orchards or the Salisbury Zoo in order to gain even more experience before starting her own business.
