Lauren Miller
Elementary Education
It has always been very important for Lauren Miller to come to college. "Ever since high school, I wanted to go to college because it would help me achieve my goals. Going to college would even help me create relationships with people inside and outside of my profession."
Lauren feels honored to be nominated for Student Spotlight. "I have always walked down the hallway with the posters and always wanted to be on one. I feel this helps show me that others see potential in me and know I put all my effort not just into school, but in everything I do."
When Lauren was applying to colleges, she had lost her sister due to an illness. "I was struggling with the idea of not having a sister to go through this amazing experience with." In addition to losing her sister, she lost her fur best friend. "He was the one who would come to me when I was stressing about a homework assignment or even when I got upset about my sister."
Lauren has wanted to be a teacher since she was four years old. "I remember playing with my friends and pretending they were students. I even had my own teacher kit at home and taught my stuffed animals." Through going to school herself, she saw how much of an impact her teachers had on her. "In high school, I even went through a career pathway and ended up working at the daycare. Through the daycare, I loved teaching the younger children basic but critical knowledge. I knew that if I could make an impact on young children, I wanted to step up to the challenge and be an elementary teacher."
When Lauren first came to Delaware Tech, she was a very anxious person who didn't want to try new things. "While taking classes here, I learned that I need help from others to thrive. I have formed some new relationships and even went out of my comfort zone by joining the Education Club and becoming an officer. I even made new relationships at Delaware Tech's Child Development Center not only with the children, but the amazing staff that I call my work family."
After graduating from Delaware Tech, Lauren plans to transfer to a university in pursuit of a bachelor's degree. "In time, I will go for my master's degree and work toward becoming an elementary school principal."
