Nicole Maguigan

Nursing

For the past 20 years, Nicole Maguigan has wanted to go to school for nursing. "My goals never changed, but life happens and my journey just took quite a bit longer."

Nicole wants to build a better life for her children and family. She has four children, aged 19, 7, 3, and 1. "It is challenging to make time for both my family and my education, but the sacrifice will be worth it when I graduate."

Nicole advises other students to never give up. "There are so many people here who want you to succeed. There are resources available, and students like myself are always willing to help others. Don't hesitate to ask me or others in your classes for help."

Nicole is more motivated than ever before thanks to the encouragement she receives from her instructors. "My family is proud of me and that makes me happy."

The instructor who nominated Nicole for Student Spotlight, Dr. Victor Alvarez, has made a big impact on her. "He has been an incredible instructor and is there whenever you need him. His classes are always fun but also educational. I wouldn't take A&P 1 or 2 with anyone else."

After graduating from Delaware Tech, Nicole plans to continue her education and become a nurse practitioner. After working in Delaware for a few years, she and her family plan to move to Alaska. "I'd like to help the people in small villages and towns who don't normally have access to good healthcare."
