Rich Rogers

Rich Rogers, a self-proclaimed "computer nerd," started his career in higher education for a very important reason: "I want to change the world; even if it's in a small way, all of my studying, networking, and student support initiatives will culminate into a pleasant world for me to live in. I want to create robots and code that can mold the future for the better and help those in need."

Since becoming a Delaware Tech student, Rich has seen many changes in himself. "I have definitely matured, but I still haven’t grown up. I think about the world in a grander sense...outside of my own bubble. I've also spent more time interacting with people and sharing genuine connections."

Rich has had to overcome many challenges. "My family comes from Liberia, and they had to pull up their bootstraps even when they couldn't afford shoes. Even after my dad left the family, my mother tried her best to provide for me and lay the best opportunities in front of me, even as we struggled with poverty. If I were only able to thank one person in my life, it would definitely be my mother."

The advice Rich would like to give to other Delaware Tech students is to not fall behind. "Whether you're not kept abreast of the trends or are playing catch-up with your homework, the end of the semester comes way sooner than you think, and patching those holes takes a lot more than a couple cram sessions."

Rich plans to utilize a connected degree pathway to pursue a bachelor's degree in computer science at the University of Delaware. "My dream career is to make medical robots that advance the field of medicine. While I'm not at all interested in the nursing field, computer scientists like me have an obligation to society to help advance the world with our knowledge the best way we can. I truly believe that allowing doctors to remotely access treatment machines and examine patients from abroad would be one of the most important advancements humanity could make in the field, and I want to be on the cusp of that development.

"My plans after graduation are simple, yet complex: Discover the world and take what it gives me."
