Stacy Mitchell

After working in banking for 28 years, Stacy Mitchell felt she needed a career change. "I want to feel good about helping others." A non-traditional, returning student, Stacy was concerned about how she would acclimate to being a student again. On top of that, her mother passed away from cancer last fall. "I managed to maintain my grades and continue working at my internship, but dealing with all that took a lot out of me. I took 18 courses in 2019 so that I could power through this; it was a lot."

After learning about the drug and alcohol counseling program at Delaware Tech, Stacy knew it was the program in which she wanted to enroll. "When I found out I could take just a few more classes to get a human services degree on top of that, I thought, why not?"

After working as a bank fraud manager for many years, Stacy began to feel stagnant. "Going to Del Tech and to my two internships, I have learned so much and I am a much more empathetic person with dealing with the less fortunate. I am super excited to keep learning more."

After graduating from Delaware Tech, Stacy plans to continue working to, "educate victims of domestic violence on financial empowerment. "I did bank fraud investigations for 28 years, and now I feel like I'm helping on the other side - helping those who have mental health and addiction issues. If I can help them, maybe they will be able to lead productive lives."
